Fairfield's annual Polar Plunge is coming up this weekend.
The event will be held Saturday, February 9 at Waterworks Park just north of town. The event starts at 11 a.m., and pre-registration closed last week, but it's not too late to participate. You can sign up with a minimum donation of $30 and registration will be open until 10:30 a.m. on the day of the plunge.
This year, all of the money raised will be going towards Fairfield's new pool and gym project. The Parks and Recreation Department is hoping for a great turnout, which they usually see every year.
"I think people like to do this event just to prove maybe they're tough enough or they just want to do something to knock off their bucket list because a lot of people do do this event and it is cool to talk about it - it's a conversation starter and something that's fun," said Derik Wulfekuhle, Director of the Parks and Rec Department.
Wulfekuhle said the event usually draws between 20 and 40 people and brings in anywhere from $4,000 to $7,000.
Plus, if the fun of the event isn't enough to bring you out - the top three fundraisers get prizes.
