Fairfield Police Department warns community to be aware of a scam

The Fairfield Police Department was contacted Wednesday by officials with the US Postal Service. The agency is documenting increased incidents of a computer virus scam in the Fairfield area.

Subjects are reporting that they are receiving emails advising it is from the US Postal Service and to open it to receive information about picking up a package. If anyone opens this email it will transfer a computer virus.

Officials with the US Postal Service confirmed their agency never sends notifications by email.

It is recommended all citizens immediately delete emails that appear to be from the US Postal Service or the US Mail.

Officers at FPD want to thank the US Postal Service for their notification to protect Fairfield area citizens.

Remember to always keep your personal information private and never give it out when receiving unsolicited or suspicious phone calls or emails.

Persons receiving suspicious phone calls or emails are welcome to report the incident to local law enforcement.
