Fairfield Police need help locating missing child
Around 9:30 Friday morning, the Fairfield Police Department received a call of a child having been taken on his way to school.
Upon further investigation, it was discovered that the child had been taken by his father and is a custodial issue.
Amber Alerts are controlled by the Iowa Department of Public Safety and must meet certain criteria before being issued. One specific criterion is that law enforcement believes the child is in danger of serious bodily harm or death. Given that this is a custody issue and the child was taken by his father, there is no reason to believe this criterion is met and an Amber Alert will not be issued by the Iowa Department of Public Safety.
The childâ??s name is Jashawn Lane, an African American child, 9-years-old. He is 4' 1" and weighs 52 pounds. He has black hair and brown eyes. He was wearing blue sweatpants and white Nike high top shoes. Jashawn was also wearing a camouflage jacket.
A description of the father was not given. His name is Tavian Martinez Antonio Lane. He is a 34-year-old African American male . It is unknown what vehicle he was driving.
The child did contact his mother and told her that he was with his father and that he was OK and they were headed for North Carolina.
This is a custody issue between parents of a child. Please contact the Fairfield Police Department at (641) 472-9201 if either is seen.
