Familes wanted to make international students feel welcomed

The International Friends program, which pairs international students at Truman with Kirksville families for them to get a better idea of the American family.

American families in and near Kirksville are wanted to help those far from home feel right at home.

The International Student Affairs Office at Truman State University has been doing the International Friends Program for the last few years.

The program is designed to help build relationships between the Kirksville community and the international students.

The students who get in the program are eager to get a taste of what it's like to be a part of an American family.

"I do know that they have taught me a lot about American culture and they gave me the opportunity to experience things that I probably would never experience anywhere else you know like stepping into an American home and eating an American meal with the family," said International Friends Coordinator Esther Chu.

Families who are interested in being part of this program just have to fill out an interest form.

Responsibilities include making your student feel welcome and communicating with them regularly.
