Farm tractor, pickup involved in serious accident
CHILLICOTHE, Iowa —
Two individuals were rushed to area hospitals Wednesday evening after a truck and tractor were involved in a serious accident near Chillicothe, Iowa.
Police at the scene tell KTVO the tractor was traveling southeast in the left-hand lane of US 63 near 212th avenue when a white pick-up truck rear-ended the farm vehicle.
The rear-end of the tractor was equipped with hay bale spears, which shattered through the windshield of the pick-up truck and punctured the roof of the vehicle.
A Wapello County Sheriff said it appeared that the tractor had flashing hazard lights activated as it traveled down the dark highway.
Authorities said the truck was able to get underneath the tractor, causing major damage to the tractor's transmission.
First responders at the scene did not immediately know the extent of either individuals injuries.
The sheriff also said the driver of the truck would likely receive a citation as a result of the accident.
