Fri, 05 Sep 2014 01:37:07 GMT — The Fairfield Area Chamber of Commerce celebrated local farmers at the 51st annual Farm Barbecue at the Jefferson County Fairgrounds. Fairfield Chamber of Commerce members and leaders served free grilled pork chops to the farmers and their families. The annual appreciation event is held to honor all of the Jefferson county agriculture producers, and allow them a place to network with the farming community. The pork chops were prepared and provided by the Jefferson County Pork Producers. "It's something that's very enjoyable for everyone because the attendance is wonderful. We've had about 450 farmers here; farmers families, adults, children of all ages, and we just love recognizing and thanking the farmers for all they do for Fairfield," Nancy Morrissey, Executive Director of the Chamber of Commmerce, said. John Whitaker, the Iowa State Farm Service Agency Director, was the keynote speaker at the barbeque. Whitaker spoke on the Agricultural Act of 2014, and what it means for farmers in Iowa.
