A fatal crash in Wapello County went unnoticed for over seven hours early Saturday morning.

The Wapello County Sheriffs office said a vehicle missed a turn, went off the road and struck a tree just outside of Eldon, Iowa.

They said the crash occurred around midnight Saturday but it was not until 7:30 that morning when someone spotted the wreck and reported it to authorities.

Authorities said a couple from Batavia was the only two passengers in the car. The husband was pronounced dead on the scene. The wife was transported to the hospital.
