The Iowa State Patrol says one person has died as a result of a Friday afternoon crash near Cantril, Iowa.

The one-vehicle crash happened around 3:30 p.m. on Highway 2 near the intersection of 265th Road just east of Cantril.

The official crash report says the 26-year-old female driver of the vehicle was pronounced dead at the scene.

Troopers said three occupants of the SUV were transported to University Hospitals in Iowa City.

Three more passengers were taken to Van Buren County Hospital for treatment.

Investigators said the driver veered off the right side of the highway onto the gravel shoulder.

The driver then overcorrected and lost control of the SUV. The vehicle crossed the road and entered the ditch on the other side of the highway where it overturned, coming to rest on its wheels in a cornfield.

As of Saturday morning, the Iowa State Patrol had not released the names of the crash victims.
