Fire and pizza

The Kirksville Fire Department and the Kirksville Domino's Pizza have joined forces to promote fire prevention during Fire Prevention Week.

Fire Prevention Week is Sunday, October 9, 2011 through Saturday, October 15, 2011.

This year's slogan is 'Protect Your Family from Fire'. Two thirds of fire home deaths are a result of either not having a smoke detector that works or not having one at all.

This is the first time the fire department and Domino's have worked together during Fire Prevention Week. Anyone who orders a pizza from Domino's in Kirksville, Wednesday, October 12, 2011 and Thursday, October 13, 2011 between 5 and 7 o'clock in the evening may be surprised at their door.

Firefighters will be delivering select pizza orders. They will go up to the door of the pizza recipient and ask if it would be alright to check their smoke detectors. If all the batteries are working in their smoke detectors, they will get the pizza for free.

If the customer does not have working batteries or a smoke detector in their home, the fire department will either install a smoke detector, or put new batteries in the detector for you.

The firefighters have already delivered pizzas Monday, October 10, 2011 and Tuesday, October 11, 2011. They have installed five smoke detectors and said everyone who received a pizza from them really liked the idea.

The Kirksville Fire Department recommends checking your smoke detectors once a month. They also recommend changing the batteries every six months.
