Fire crews battle afternoon blaze

Crews battled a fire on Crest Trail Thursday afternoon.

Crews from Adair County Rural and La Plata Fire spent Thursday afternoon battling an attic fire in Adair County.

The fire started around 2 p.m. on Crest Trail, just west of Highway 3.

The home belongs to Joey and Kay Anesi.

When KTVO arrived at the scene, smoke was pouring from the roof. Firefighters had to work fast to contain the flames inside.

Several people were home at the time of the fire, but they all were able to make it out safely.

â??We were sitting in there and I looked up at the ceiling and I noticed it was getting smoky and I said 'what's all this smoke coming out at the top by the chimney?' and he looked up, thought he didn't have the damper open, came outside and said 'hey it's smoking outside' so we called the fire department,â?? said Tom Meador, the homeownerâ??s brother-in-law.

Homeowners suspect the fire started somewhere in the chimney, but the exact cause of the fire is still unknown.
