Fire destroys half of Kirksville duplex

UPDATE April 25, 2014: The Kirksville Fire Department told KTVO Friday that someone purposely set Thursday evening's fire at a duplex at 518 East Hickory Street.

The case remains under investigation. No suspects have been arrested at this time.

Firefighters said an investigator from the Missouri State Fire Marshal's Office was on the scene Thursday evening to look into the cause.

They aren't saying yet exactly how the fire was set.

The back unit of the duplex where the fire happened was extensively damaged.

The front unit only had light smoke and no damage from the blaze.


Fire destroyed half of a Kirksville duplex Thursday evening.

The blaze was reported right around 8:30 p.m. at 518 East Hickory Street.

The caller said flames and heavy smoke were showing when he discovered it.

The fire heavily damaged the back unit of the duplex.

The woman who lived in the front unit made it out safely.

Crews had the blaze put out in about half an hour.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
