One city department is trading in their blues and wearing pink.

Youâ??ve heard the saying â??real men wear pinkâ??. Well thatâ??s exactly what firefighters with the Kirksville Fire Department are doing and it's all for a good cause.

October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month and firefighters all across the nation are wearing pink to support women in their fight against all cancers.

This is the third year KFD is participating in the campaign.

â??We like to get behind the community and show our support for the community that has supported us for several years in so many different ways that we needed the support,â?? said Capt. Joe Schilling with Kirksville Fire Department. â??This is our way of giving back and standing up in things that we believe in. The city has embraced it also and has allowed us to wear them on duty and so it's just our way of giving back to the community.â??

The Kirksville Fire Department is part of the International Association of Firefighters and the IAFF supports and encourages its members to participate in campaigns throughout the month.

KFD hopes to have pink shirts for sale next year so the entire community can get involved and help find a cure for breast cancer.
