A Macon County group is helping the public get ready for the soon-to-be-here winter season.
The Macon County Community Volunteer Group is holding a winter season safety and preparedness meeting next Thursday, Dec. 19 at the Macon County Health Department in Macon.
The 6 p.m. meeting will include valuable tips on how to be safe out in the elements, preventing injuries like frostbite and hypothermia, and of course, winter weather driving advice.
"Before going out in the wintertime when the weather is cold and the roads are snowy and icy, one has to decide, is this risk necessary, is this the something I have to do because not only are you risking your own life, you can also be endangering the lives of others with you out on the road," said Cindy Malloy R.N. of the Macon County Health Department.
The group will also talk about carbon monoxide poisoning, warming your home with different types of heating systems and avoiding Christmastime fires.
The Dec. 19 meeting at the Macon County Health Department is free and open to the public.
