Mon, 31 Mar 2014 21:49:28 GMT — The first yard waste collection of the year begins this week for Ottumwa residents.Weekly collection now begins on Tuesdays for households on Ottumwaâ??s south side. North side residents' yard waste will be collected on Thursdays. Public Information Officer Tom Rodgers says yard waste includes leaves, grass clippings and small garden debris. He says they must be placed in the Ottumwa/Wapello yard waste collection bags. "Yard waste does have to be properly prepared for collection," Rodgers said. "The Ottumwa/Wapello yard waste bags are the only acceptable leaf bags on the market, so we do ask folks to use those." The collection bags cost one dollar at local grocery stores. The cost covers the expense of hauling the debris to the landfill. Yard waste is next recycled into mulch. You are asked to have your yard waste out by 4 a.m. on collection day. If you have any questions, you are asked to call Bridge City Sanitation at 641-682-1700.
