Fort Madison considers tourist attraction's future
Thu, 05 Jun 2014 13:53:24 GMT — Fort Madison will consider hiring a consultant to assess a beloved tourist attraction needing repairs. The City Council on Monday discussed hiring a consultant to visit the eight buildings that comprise the Old Fort Madison, a former military camp on the upper Mississippi River. Officials say the tourist attraction has fallen into disrepair because of little preventive maintenance. They are considering repairs to the buildings, including work on the foundation. The Burlington Hawk Eye says repairs could cost the city up to $250,000 per building.
