Friends for La Plata Preservation receive state honor

The Friends for La Plata Preservation has received a state honor for preservation efforts.

The Friends for La Plata Preservation have recently received the McReynolds Award. The award recognizes individuals or groups who have demonstrated on-going commitment to preservation through long-term projects. The group has purchased the Green Theatre in La Plata and is in the process of restoring it and making roofing improvements. Friends for La Plata Preservation has also restored the La Plata Amtrak Station. Members of the group are happy to have their hard work recognized by the state.

"It's nice. It's like a pat on the back saying good job. You know, there's no monetary award but if we were to write a grant it would look good on that, and it's just recognition," said Cindy Moore of the Friends for La Plata Preservation.

In order to raise funds for more preservation efforts, Friends for La Plata Preservation will be hosting a big band dance. The dance will be held on Saturday April 5 at 7:30 p.m. at the Silver Rails Event Center.
