Fun still continues at Ottumwa Balloon Races despite wind

Despite windy conditions the past few days, activities at the annual Ottumwa Balloon Races still went on.

Those activities included the chili cook-off, band performances, and the carnival. Numerous food vendors were on hand, to sell fair favorites such as funnel cake and frozen lemonades. The races and carnival even drew visitors from outside of the Hawkeye State.

"I'm actually from Illinois. Me and my family are on vacation. It's about a three and a half hour drive. We came to see the balloons, but unfortunately it got cancelled last night," said Kelsey Sorrells, a fair go-er.

The Ottumwa Balloon Races will come to an end on Sunday. If you haven't had a chance to head out yet, the final competition will be held bright and early at 6 a.m. The Kiwanis Club is also hosting a pancake breakfast under the Shelter House beginning at 5:30 am. before the competition gets underway.
