Fundraiser raises money for MU's Women and Children's Hospital
MACON, MO. —
One Heartland organization combined playing games and raising money for a local children's hospital.
“This is one of the few real fundraisers that everybody can do and love. That’s one of the reasons I love this event so much," said Douglas Coleman, President of Extra Life.
Having fun and playing games is an effort to raise money for MU's Women and Children's Hospital in Columbia.
The event is called Extra Life in Macon and took place at the Macon Expo Center on Saturday.
Coleman says Extra Life is a national organization that raises money for Children's Miracle Network Hospitals across the globe.
“Our three first events, we also do mini events and stuff like that, we have raised something like 5 thousand dollars. All of it going directly to MU women’s and children hospital.”
This is the fourth year the event was held in Macon.
The organization raised a little of $1,000 their first year.
This year, their goal is to raise $3,000.
“I just like giving back to the community and this charity. There’s so many charities out there, but this one really strikes to me what I love. I love gaming, I love board gaming, I love video games. I love all types of games and to me this brings everybody together."
Coleman says Extra Life at Macon is an event for anyone in the Heartland community to attend.
Coleman says everyone loves to play games from board games to video games.
Most importantly, Coleman says the event supports a great cause.
“On top of that it's sick kids. I hate seeing any kid sick so I want to do everything I can to raise money for them.”
