Gas prices rise as holidays approach

The holidays are upon us, which means gas prices are on the rise as thousands are traveling to visit loved ones for Thanksgiving.

The average retail gasoline prices in Missouri have risen 11 cents per gallon in the past week. Prices at the pump in the Kirksville area are averaging between $2.86 and $2.89 per gallon at numerous locations around town.

Prices in Ottumwa are coming in higher, and with a wider difference in prices. The prices in Ottumwa are averaging between $3.19 and $3.29 per gallon.

The national average has decreased 5.4 cents per gallon during the past month, and is about 17.5 cents lower than prices one year ago. Experts look for the price per gallon to increase as the Christmas holiday approaches.
