Mon, 19 May 2014 21:50:35 GMT — Ottumwa's Health and Inspections Director is expected to take on some new responsibilities in the near future. At Tuesday's city council meeting, the council will decide whether or not to appoint Jody Gates as the planning and development director. This will be on top of her current duties in the health department. "It's kind of ironic because in the early 90s, planning and development, the health department and solid waste, they were all together, and they were called the Community Services Department and most of them were here on the second floor at that time," Gates said. "I worked for the city then, and so it's like where we're kind of recreating that department if you will." Nick Klimek is now the planning and development director. His last day will be on June 2. If the council approves Gates for the position, she will remain the health director as well. She will take on those new duties come June 3. The Ottumwa City Council will meet Tuesday inside the council chambers of city hall at 6:30 p.m.
