Get rid of hazardous household waste properly

Do you have any leftover household products lying around that you need to get rid of?

The city of Kirksville is collecting household hazardous waste items.

Improper disposal of household hazardous wastes can include pouring them down the drain, on the ground, into storm sewers or even putting them in the trash.

This year, Public Works Director John Buckwalter said there is a change.

â??The Household Hazardous Waste program this year will be a little different from last,â?? Buckwalter said. â??We no longer have grant funding supporting the program, so for 2013 the program is limited to citizens of Kirksville.â??

You can take your items to the Public Works Department on April 13 and April 27 from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m.

Household hazardous waste includes any items that contain corrosive, toxic, ignitable, or reactive ingredients.

To dispose of your waste through the city you must schedule an appointment with the department by calling 660-627-1291.
