Gov. Branstad plans for upcoming election

Governor Terry Branstad made an appearance in Ottumwa Saturday during the Iowa GOP 2nd District Convention.

Branstad gave an enthusiastic speech which fired up the crowd. He said it was an honor for him to win Wapello County for the first time in his career.

Branstad also reflected on the accomplishments his administration has made during his time in office, and Republicans say they now have the budget in order after going from a $900 million projected deficit to a surplus almost that large.

The unemployment rate in Iowa has dipped from 6 percent to 4.5 percent, the 5th lowest in the nation.

Gov. Branstad says he feels poised to win another election.

â??The future of Iowa can be bright and prosperous. We have a great opportunity in 2014. I want to lead this team to victory. I want to run the best campaign we've ever run. I believe we can build a future that we can all be proud of,â?? he said.

Branstad also says over 120,000 jobs in Iowa have been created in the past three years and the number of state employees has been reduced by over 1,000.
