Gov. Nixon praises Adair County

Gov. Jay Nixon was in Kirksville Friday to congratulate Adair County on their achievements in job growth.

Nixon toured the Kirksville Area Technical Center, talking with students and teachers.

He also presented Kirksville Regional Economic Development Incorporated with an award for its accomplishments in getting Adair County designated a "work ready" community.

Nixon wanted to highlight the recent monthly jobs report showing that Missouri added more jobs in 2014 than any other year since 1997.

The monthly jobs report released by the Missouri Department of Economic Development on January 21 showed the state's unemployment rate has dropped to 5.4 percent, which is lower than the national average.

â??Technical schools are really providing a framework to get kids, even in high schools and grade schools, to begin to get the skill sets they need for jobs in the future,â?? said Nixon.

Adair County is now one of 12 Missouri counties to be designated a certified work ready community.
