Gov. Jay Nixon in Kirksville Thursday afternoon.

Missouri Governor Jay Nixon made his rounds in Kirksville Thursday afternoon. The governor made his way to the Thousand Hills State Park for his second stop.

Governor Nixon and First Lady Georganne Nixon launch the 100 Missouri Miles Challenge, which encourages Missourians to hike, cycle, walk, paddle or roll 100 miles as a way to get fit and enjoy Missouriâ??s outdoors. â??We want to make sure we get as many Missourians out being active,â?? Governor Nixon said. â??It's great for your health. Itâ??s great to get outside. Plus, we want to see this as a way for Missourians to get out and see trails and areas they don't know. We also want to get people out of the areas they usually walk.â??

More than 5,500 participants have logged more than 220,000 miles since â??100 Missouri Milesâ?? kicked off last month. Governor Nixon has visited every state park and historic site in Missouri.
