Graduation week at one Heartland school is bittersweet for the principal.
Sister Ruth Ann Klauser is leaving Mary Immaculate Catholic School after five years.
Klauser will be moving from Kirksville to Rome.
She will be working there as the liaison between the School Sisters of Notre Dame organization and the Vatican.
Klauser has been with the organization for 50 years and was contacted by them about the position.
After going to Rome for the interview, she gladly accepted it.
â??I have to say the students. They're the ones that keep me going every day. The support I've received from the faculty, Father Chris, the parents and all of Kirksville has been outstanding,â?? Sister Ruth Ann said.
Klauser says she loves teaching but is looking forward to this new opportunity. She is still in shock but humbled that she got the position.
Next up, Klauser will be honored for her work at the school at Mary Immaculate's 11 a.m. Sunday Mass on June 1.
