A grass fire threatened homes and charred around 25 acres.
The blaze about two miles west of Brashear was reported right around 4 p.m. It happened on property along Tiger Lane near the intersection of Highway 6 and Route V. When fire crews first got to the scene, they reported flames as high as 20 to 25 feet shooting into the air. Eastern Fire Chief Chris Drennan says no nearby structures were burned, but the fire did get close to three homes. The fire department believes the blaze started when someone tried to burn a pile of trash. Nobody was hurt.
