Great American Campout is right around the corner

The Kirksville Parks and Recreation Department encourages you and your family to take part in a special event this summer.

Thousands of people across the nation will gather in their backyards and parks to take part in the Great American Backyard Campout on Saturday, June 28th.

On that day, tent camping will be permitted at Rotary Park in Kirksville.

Organizers want families to take part in this one-night event that will give them a chance to connect with nature.

â??I'm hoping they can enjoy being with each other, it's kind of rare sometimes nowadays to spend that much time with your families. It's a nice quiet area here at Rotary Park for people to be able to camp with their families,â?? said Recreation Assistant Courtney Pierce.

You can check in at the Aquatic Center anytime between 4 and 7 p.m. on June 28th.

The event is free, but campers must provide their own food.

The Great American Campout has been hosted since 2005 by the National Wildlife Federation.
