The morning Kiwanis and Hy-noon Kiwanis clubs of Ottumwa presented a check for $3,244.93 to the children TMs wing of the Ottumwa public library.
The money was raised during the annual pork loin dinner back in August. The Kiwanis clubs have been donating to the library for the last six years.
Part of the mission and the goal of Kiwanis is to contribute to not only the community but specifically to the children of the community, said Mike Weaver, president of Hy-Noon Kiwanis. It TMs imperative that we find causes throughout the community that do benefit children.
It shows that the community really supports not only Kiwanis organizations in Ottumwa, but certainly the programs that are supported by the Kiwanis, said Larry Jarvis, president of Ottumwa Morning Kiwanis.
The money raised will help pay for children TMs programs including guest speakers, new books and the summer reading program. Sonja Ferrell, director of the library, says if donations like this weren TMt made, there would have to be some cuts.
The first thing to go would be getting as much new materials each year, Ferrell said. That TMs important especially in the children TMs library because we want to keep our collection up to date. Children go through the books in a much faster scale than the adults do.
