Heartland authorities investigating woman's death

Officials in Sullivan County are currently involved in what they term a â??death investigationâ??.

Sullivan County Sheriff Roger Smiley told KTVO late Wednesday afternoon that his office and the Missouri State Highway Patrol's Division of Drug and Crime Control (DDCC) are investigating the death of Vickie Anderson, 51, at her residence near Boynton, northeast of Milan, Missouri.

Smiley said his office received a 911 call around 7:15 a.m. Wednesday after another member of the household found Andersonâ??s body in an outbuilding behind the house.

The sheriff, a deputy and emergency medical crews responded to the scene on Route N about a mile east of Boynton.

Smiley would not elaborate, but he did say the death is not believed to be the result of natural causes.

"We've interviewed two subjects today (Wednesday) on the situation, and until we get more, there are no arrests, no pending arrests. It's an active investigation. I think in a day or two we'll have more information,â?? said Smiley.

When KTVO arrived at the Andersons' home, an investigator with the DDCC, who declined to give us his name, told our reporter that the area was still a crime scene.

An autopsy on Anderson's body is scheduled for Thursday morning. Smiley said he expects to have preliminary results by sometime Thursday afternoon.

A few community members told KTVO they had heard that Anderson's throat was slit. Smiley would neither confirm nor deny that.

A neighbor down the road told us the Andersons just moved into the residence a few weeks ago.

Boynton is approximately five miles northeast of Milan.
