Wapello County Republican Chairwoman Trudy Caviness has been selected as one of the top 50 political activists as the state gears up for the 2012 presidential caucus season.
The list was compiled by the Des Moines Register.
The Register chose Caviness and 49 other political leaders who are able to make or break a presidential candidate.
Caviness is recognized for her work in what is historically considered a democratic county.
The voter registration in Wapello County is 20% Republican, 45%-50% Democrat, and about 30%-35% Independent.
The republican percentage has increased over the last few years and Caviness said people are looking at what the issues are and how they affect you.
"We knew it was going to be hard with our voter registration not in the favor of republicans that it was going to be an uphill battle," Caviness said. "When you take a good candidate, good volunteers and put together an organization, it works."
The hard work obviously paid off for Caviness and the Wapello County republicans during the most recent election cycle.
Terry Branstad won Wapello County and the county will also be represented by republicans in the state senate.
