Heartland library encouraging teens to read for fun

The Adair County Public Library is kicking off their teens and tweens "Spark A Reaction" summer program this week.

One Heartland library is encouraging teens to read for fun.

The Adair County Public Library is now kicking off their teens and tweens summer program this week. The program is open for ages 10-17. The theme this year is "Spark A Reaction."

Children's Librarian Diane Burger will be talking to the teenagers and pre-teens about science fiction and fantasy literature. Burger hopes this will spark interest into thinking and reading in this age group going on right now. "I hope they will just come and enjoy reading. My whole emphasis is getting that love of reading started. With these tweens and teens, books can take you anywhere at anytime at anyplace. I think it will be a lot of fun," Burger said.

The group will meet every Wednesday at 10:30 a.m.

There will also be fun activities such as guest speakers and movies on Thursdays at 10:30 a.m. This week Dr. Jeff Gall from Truman State University will be at the library. He will be giving out the history and fun facts about Missouri.
