Heartland ministry helping kids get new shoes

Shoes From The Heart Ministry held a shoe measurement event Monday.

One Heartland organization is helping families in need by making sure their kids have one very important necessity.

Shoes From The Heart Ministry based out of Macon held an event with the Kirksville Head Start group at Brashear Park Monday evening.

At the event kids were measured for their proper shoe size to get a brand new pair of shoes.

Organizers said it is their mission to bring some happiness to the children during their time of need.

"A lot of these kids have never had a brand new pair of shoes in their life. So for them to get a brand new pair of shoes that actually fit, it's like Christmas morning. Every time they get a pair, it's neat to see their faces light up with excitement," said Donnie Bonuchi, Co-founder of Shoes From The Heart.

After getting their feet measured, the kids and their parents were treated to ice cream floats.
