Heartland RSVP prepares to recognize volunteers

Organizers have been hard at work preparing tropical centerpieces for this year's Hawaiian themed banquet.

The Heartland Retired and Senior Volunteer Program, better known as RSVP, is gearing up for the 41st Annual Recognition Banquet.

They've been hard at work preparing many tropical centerpieces for the Hawaiian themed banquet which will be held at the Moose Lodge in Kirksville next Tuesday at 11:00 a.m.

Organizers say the annual affair is a great way to honor their nearly 250 volunteers for years of dedicated service.

"It's just kind of a pat on the back to them, and that they are helpful, they are worth something even though some of them may be 85,â?? said Debbie Reese, RSVP Office Manager. â??We're recognizing a volunteer that has been with RSVP for 40 years, so that means a lot, you know, she's been here for a long time and we need to say thank you."

Kirksville Mayor Glen Moritz will deliver opening remarks at the celebration and a lunch will be served shortly after.

Members of the public are welcome to attend, however reservations should be made as soon as possible.

Tickets cost $8.50 in advance or $9.50 at the door. If you reserve tickets ahead of time they can be picked up at the RSVP office located at 201 N. Elson St.
