UPDATE:

A former Albia teacher has pleaded guilty to having sex with a student.

Zachary Simpson, 29, of Albia, entered guilty pleas in a Monroe County Courtroom Friday morning to Sexual Exploitation by School Employee and two counts of Violation of a No Contact Order.

He was sentenced to five years in prison with the possibility of parole.

Simpson was arrested in June, accused of having sex with a 16-year-old Albia student more than once. At the time of his arrest, Simpson was employed as a coach and teacher with the school district.

Earlier this week, Simpson was arrested again after meeting the girl, which was a violation of his no-contact order.

He is now required to register as a sex offender, and will be ordered to pay just short of $1,000 in court costs and correctional fees.

A former Albia teacher accused of having sex with a student has been caught with that same student.

Zachary Simpson, 29, was arrested in June and charged with Sexual Exploitation by a School Employee.

He is accused of having sex with a 16-year-old Albia student in his vehicle multiple times.

Following his arrest, Simpson was issued a no-contact order for the girl.

On Tuesday, Simpson was arrested again after an Albia police officer saw the teen get out of Simpson's truck.

According to court documents, the meeting happened at the City Park on Highway 137.

The girl told the officer she had met with Simpson to tell him goodbye.

Simpson was released after posting $2,000 cash bond.

A hearing on the contempt charge is scheduled for next week.

Right now, a trial date hasn't been set for the Sexual Exploitation charge.

If Simpson is convicted on that charge, he would face up to five years in prison.
