Heartland woman with big giving heart is recognized

Ameren Missouri named Sandy Rogers as one of its 10 winners of the Community Lights Contest for her work at Helping Hands Mission.

A major Missouri company recognizes a Heartland woman for her big giving heart.

Tuesday, Ameren Missouri named Sandy Rogers of Kirksville as one of its 10 winners of the Community Lights Contest. The contest is a nomination-based Facebook campaign that recognizes outstanding Ameren customers who volunteer throughout Missouri.

Rogers volunteers her time at Helping Hands Mission in downtown Kirksville by providing a soup kitchen and thrift store for the less fortunate.

Rogers told us she's humbled by the honor.

"I just love the people and being here at the mission, I've gotten to know a lot of people on a personal level. I don't look at where they come from or who they are. I just love the people," Rogers told us.

Rogers will receive $2,500 and an additional $2,500 for Helping Hands Mission.

Ameren Missouri hosted a celebration in St.Louis on January 31. Rogers couldn't make it to the event due to the weather so the company came to town and bought lunch for her and sandwiches to share with the people she feeds at the soup kitchen.
