Mon, 24 Mar 2014 21:32:46 GMT — Ottumwa wants residents' feedback on how to better make the city shine. The goal of the event is to adopt houses for cleanup, target different areas of the community for trash pick-up and generally make Ottumwa a more beautiful place. The annual Make Ottumwa Shine event is held around the last week of April each year. However, the committee may consider moving that date back into early May due to the cold weather this year. Residents are welcome to attend a meeting on Wednesday to discuss a date for this year's events, along with what type of clean-up events to include. Program coordinator Jody Gates said Make Ottumwa Shine only continues with the help of volunteers. "Volunteers are crucial, every year we get anywhere from 50 to maybe 200 and when other entities join us and participate, they bring their volunteers too and we've had as many as 300 volunteers before," Gates said. The meeting will be held at 4 p.m. in the council chambers at City Hall.
