Some high school students took time after school to help out a community organization.

The Family Career Community Leaders of America Club at Kirksville High School collected and packed food at the Kirksville office of the Food Bank for Central and Northeast Missouri.

This is the second time FCCLA has worked with the food bank to help address the concerns of hunger in Adair County and act to become important leaders in the community.

"It's important because it's in the name of the club. I think it's important that we're helping out the community for kids in need," said FCCLA President Emily Weichelt.

About 15 students and their advisers worked as a team getting packs ready to be distributed as part of the Buddy Pack Program. The program gives the chance for underprivileged kids to take food home for weekends or when school is not in session during the year.
