People with a passion for motorcycles and helping pets come together year after year for the Hogs 4 Dogs USA motorcycle ride.
Over 400 participants came out to the 10th annual event, which kicked off Sunday morning at RJ Performance. From there, the motorcyclists and passengers enjoyed the open road on a 150 mile bike ride. Tammie and John Hartley started Hogs 4 Dogs in 2004 as a way to raise money for area pet spay and neuter programs.
â??The proceeds go to help area pets and not only just in the Ottumwa community, but all over Southeast Iowa,â?? Tammie Hartley, Hogs 4 Dogs Co-Founder said. â??It's our mission to push spay and neuter. If there's more spay and neater, there's less homeless pets.â??The Hartleys say the family event keeps getting bigger and bigger each year, raising several thousand dollars for animals. The charity motorcycle ride brought in 401 riders this year, which is five more riders than last year.
