      HOGS4DOGS USA holds 2nd annual K9 Clinic

Man's best friend took center stage Saturday at the Ottumwa Elks Lodge during the 2nd annual K9 Clinic.

The event is sponsored by the non-profit group HOGS4DOGS USA.

The group aims to help the well being of area pets.

During the clinic, dog owners were offered low-cost vaccines, microchipping, and light grooming amongst other services. Plenty of pet information was also made available.

HOGS4DOGS Co-Owner Tammie Hartley and her husband John said the clinic is based off a similar event in Fairfield.

"There was no one in the area picking the idea up for Ottumwa animals," said Hartley. "So John and I put our heads together with a couple of the vets. We decided we'd do it here for the Ottumwa dogs."

Hartley is pleased with how the event has grown in its second year.

88 area dogs were served at last year's event.

This year's number is expected to eclipse 100.
