Law enforcement teams are conducting a homicide investigation in Appanoose County.
Deputies are standing guard at 16669 600th St. in rural Cincinnati, Iowa.
At around 1:30 a.m. Sunday, the Law Center received a 9-1-1 call reporting a dead body found at the residence.
When deputies arrived, they discovered 56-year-old Doretta Glascock dead. Her body sustained gunshot wounds.
Her 66-year-old estranged husband, Jackie Glascock Sr., was found alive but suffering from life-threatening gunshot wounds.
Appanoose County Sheriff Gary Anderson told KTVO that their preliminary investigation indicates that a domestic disturbance occurred at the home.
The couple had a recent history of domestic violence. In fact, a protective order was issued on June 20 listing Doretta as the protected party.
Investigators will keep watch over the scene until they learn more about Doretta's death.
"We will be here until we make the determination and after the autopsy is performed, which we hope will be conducted tomorrow," Sheriff Anderson said.
Jackie was taken to University of Iowa hospitals in Iowa City by air ambulance for treatment.
The Iowa Division of Criminal Investigation, Iowa State Medical Examiner, Centerville Police and Appanoose County Attorney are assisting with the investigation.
