One Heartland community came together this weekend to remember one of their own who made the ultimate sacrifice.
People gathered at La Plata City Park Saturday evening to remember U.S. Army member and La Plata native Adam Thomas who was killed in action while on his second tour of duty in Afghanistan exactly 10 years ago Saturday.
At the ceremony, a Battlefield Cross was presented in Thomas' memory to remember and honor him and dedicate this to all those who have and now serving to protect our country.
"Adam was a very special boy. He enjoyed life. He grew up here. He was with the fire department and first responder. Adam just cared about people," said Thomas' Uncle Kevin East
Thomas was only 21 years old when he died.
The Patriot Guard was there presenting a line of American flags.
Thomas' family appreciates all the support from the La Plata community to make this night happen.
