Hotels in Kirksville continue to take shape
KIRKSVILLE, Mo. —
Nearly 140, that's how many additional hotel rooms one Heartland city will soon have.
KTVO made stops at two construction sites in Kirksville on Tuesday to see how work is progressing.
The new Holiday Inn Express is one of two hotels slated to open in the coming months.
A sign has been placed on the building and crews are putting on final touches.
The hotel is located on South Franklin Street and has been dubbed the Holiday Inn Express and Suites - University Area - due to its close proximity to both Truman State and A.T. Still University.
According to the Holiday Inn website, reservations are being accepted from November 18 and on.
When all is said and done, the four-story hotel will have 82 guest rooms and a large meeting room.
The current Holiday Inn Express, located just down the road, will be re-named and stay open.
Across town, work on the Hampton Inn is also progressing.
Plans call for upwards of 70 guest rooms as well as a meeting room.
Owners of the hotel say they hope to hire roughly 20 employees.
City of Kirksville documents state that the Hampton Inn requires all work to be completed, including landscaping and all details, before the hotel will be allowed to open.
According to the Hampton Inn website, the hotel is presently accepting reservations for the arrival of February 15, 2018 and beyond.
City officials hope that this recent surge in business openings and construction will encourage even more industries to move into the area.
