      How to curb sugar cravings

      We naturally crave carbohydrates, which release the feel good chemical serotonin, plus relaxing endorphins. Now you get why they are addicting. Consuming added sugar here and there is okay occasionally, but what gets us in trouble is the daily over consumption. Carrie Snyder stopped by the set of Good Morning Heartland to tell us how we can curb our sugar cravings. WATCH VIDEO ABOVE to learn more.

      Average American consumes 22 tsp of added sugar. Consuming these simple carbohydrates on their own can give you quick energy, but can also cause you to crash quickly. Then the hunger sneaks back up on you.

      How to curb the sugar cravings?

      • Combine a small portion of the carbohydrate rich food you are craving with protein and fat.

      • If it is a craving and not true hunger, get up and distract yourself.

      • Have a plan!! Eat intentionally!!

      • Do not skip meals; eat every 3-5 hours.

      • Go cold turkey?! Begin to limit all forms of added sugar and sweeteners.
