Husband, wife set to spend life behind bars for child sex crimes
KIRKSVILLE, Mo. —
A husband and wife will spend the rest of their lives behind bars for sex crimes against children.
According to online court documents, Kevin Tillitt, 48, of Shelbyville, Mo., was sentenced in Adair County court Wednesday morning to more than 130 years in prison. He was found guilty in July on four counts of first-degree statutory sodomy, two counts of first-degree statutory rape and one count of first-degree child molestation. The sentence from Judge Russell Steele called for 15 years for the child molestation charge, and 20 for each of the others. The sentences will be served consecutively. Probation was denied.
His wife, Melinda Tillitt, 40, was convicted of similar charges and sentenced to 90 years in prison last November.
Together, authorities said the couple sexually abused two female children between ages 8 and 14, at times holding the children under water to compel them to comply.
Prosecutors said the abuse had taken place since at least 2007.
