Once again, IHCC??s Rural Health Education Partnership Program will be having its summer health camps for kids in grades three through eighth giving them an inside look into the medical profession.
The camps were started around 15 years ago when a need to get kids interested in healthcare careers was identified.
Health Occupations Department Chair Lori Reeves said that those at the practitioner level aren??t interested in staying in this part of Iowa making it difficult to recruit those people.
??So what we've done is try to get interest in people who are already committed to this area, the Ottumwa area, and so we have chosen through the camps to help interest, or spark an interest, in kids to come back after their training or take training here that allows them to work in healthcare and be a practitioner right here in southeast Iowa,?? said Reeves.
The camps will be divided by grade levels and will each focus on a different aspect of healthcare giving them hands on experience.
