Illinois man in trouble after high-speed chase in Iowa
NEAR SPERRY, Iowa —
An Illinois man lead deputies on a high-speed chase near Sperry, Iowa late Saturday night.
According to a press release from the Des Moines County Sheriff's Office, deputies responded to the area of Highway 61 and 180th Street in reference to a suspicious vehicle.
Upon arrival, deputies attempted to contact the occupant of the vehicle, but instead the driver took off at a high rate of speed.
The driver lead deputies on a short pursuit while reaching speeds of more than 100mph. The suspect pulled over, but failed to comply with commands from law enforcement and fled once again.
During the second chase, speeds only reached 30mph.
Deputies attempted to gain verbal compliance with the driver of the vehicle, but the suspect had to be shot with a TASER.
Eli Erickson, 36, of Silvis, Illinois was identified as the driver and taken into custody.
After declining medical attention, he was transported to the Des Moines County Jail and booked with the following charges: eluding, speeding, careless driving and interference with official acts.
The total bond for Erickson is $2,900.
