Indian Hills Community College encourages photonics companies to expand in Southern Iowa
Indian Hills Community College is working to advance the growth of the photonics industry in Southern Iowa.
The school recently formed a Midwest Photonics Alliance with local and state economic development organizations. IHCCâ??S laser/electro-optics program educates technicians who are in high demand at the national level.
At the beginning of this month, members of the alliance travelled to San Francisco for the photonics west conference. Over 1,200 companies from across the nation attended. The goal of the alliance was to spread the word about the resources Southern Iowa has available in the photonics industry. Executive Dean of Regional Economic Advancement Tom Rubel is the coordinator of the project for Indian Hills.
â??Our goal is to keep our laser students here in Southeast Iowa, and the way we can do that is if we attract businesses and industry to this area in photonics, in lasers and therefore our graduates go to work for those businesses and industries,â?? Rubel said.
Rubel plans to continue encouraging photonics companies to expand in Southeast Iowa.
