Ingested vs. Contact vs. Inhaled Allergies
An allergic response occurs when a person's immune system reacts abnormally to a common substance in the environment. That substance, known as an allergen, will cause an inflammation response in the body that may range from mild to possibly life-threatening. Did you know there are three different types of allergies people suffer from? Dr. Lary Ciesemier from Kirksville Allergy and Asthma stopped by the set of Good Morning Heartland Tuesday morning to break it down for us.
Ingested allergies are caused when an offending allergen is eaten- most common would be a peanut allergy.
A contact allergy occurs when a substance comes in contact with a personâ??s skin- most common would be poision ivy.
The most common type of allergy, inhaled, is caused when a person breathes in an allergen such as pollen or animal dander.
