The Wapello County Sheriffâ??s Office is looking into the apparent theft of almost 30 cows near Ottumwa.
Chief Deputy Don Phillips says the cows were stolen sometime during the winter when the farmer who owns them was in the hospital.
The farmer told the sheriffâ??s office last week that when he did a head count, he realized that 27 were missing. The cows are valued at about $850 each.
Investigators have contacted several sale barns, but have yet to find the cattle.
Evidence shows that someone had been in a fenced in area where the cows had been located.
