Iowa Nepalese Association raising support following earthquake

The 7.9 magnitude earthquake that struck Nepal over the weekend also impacted the Nepalese community in Iowa.

The Iowa Nepalese Association is a non-profit organization in the Greater Des Moines area that actively supports local Nepalese residents in the Heartland.

The INA has been busy working to ensure friends and relatives of the Iowa Nepalese community still in Nepal are safe.

â??We started getting calls from our friends and families back in Nepal and all around the US; they were waking us up in the middle of the night and informing us of the earthquake that was going on in Nepal. And as soon as we got on Facebook, we saw all the massive destruction and all the casualties," said Bikram Shrestha, spokesperson for the Iowa Nepalese Association.

The INA is accepting donations to go towards funding the rescue and relief efforts.

They ensure that 100 percent of contributions raised will be directly disbursed to organizations supporting rescue and relief efforts.
